Charlotte
Adopted
Charlotte’s story is nothing short of a midnight rescue mission—literally.
She was part of a well-known agriculture program, where students raise animals for months, only to send them to slaughter at the end. The students in her program had no idea what they were signing up for, and when they found out Charlotte was meant to become bacon, they panicked. She wasn’t just a pig to them—she was smart, loving, and part of their family.
Heartbroken, they begged the program to let her live, but the answer was a hard no. Charlotte was legally owned by the program, and nothing could be done. Or so they thought…
Determined to save her life, Charlotte’s family came up with a daring plan. In the dead of night, they snuck into the pen, freed Charlotte, and got her to safety before anyone could stop them. The only problem? They had nowhere to take her.
That’s when A & K Animal Rescue stepped in.
We got the call from a friend who was temporarily hiding her, and we immediately said yes. The moment she arrived, she still had cut marks drawn on her body, showing where she was supposed to be butchered. A numbered ear tag identified her as property. But not anymore.
The first thing we did? Remove that tag. Charlotte was no longer just livestock—she was family.
We built her a custom pig pen, complete with a mud pond fit for a queen. Today, Charlotte weighs around 450 pounds and lives happily with our two rescue mules, spending her days lounging in the mud, sunbathing, and living the life she was meant to.
Charlotte was never meant to survive. But thanks to the students who loved her, a little rebellion, and A & K Animal Rescue, she got her second chance.
