Mama Dog
Adopted
We first met Mama Dog when our local shelter called us with an urgent Dog request. A very anxious, high-strung new mama had just given birth to 10 puppies, and the shelter environment — though filled with love — was simply too loud, crowded, and stressful for her to safely raise her newborns.
In shelters, newborn puppies are at risk for two big reasons: stressed mamas often can’t feed properly, and even the cleanest facilities can’t completely eliminate the spread of illness among vulnerable animals. That’s why our shelter works hard to find calm, nurturing Dog homes for new mothers like Mama Dog — and that’s where we stepped in.
When she arrived at A & K Animal Rescue, Mama Dog was overwhelmed and unsure. But within just a few days of gentle care, quiet space, and love, her whole spirit changed. She began to calm down. She started nursing. She became the attentive, protective, and loving mama her pups needed.
She successfully raised all ten of her babies right here at A & K — and the best part? Every single one of them was Adopted into loving forever homes.
Mama Dog reminded us of the power of a safe space, a second chance, and the quiet strength of motherhood.
