Pepper’s story began at our local feed store — one of those unplanned moments that turned into something unforgettable. We had stopped in for something completely unrelated, but then we saw her… and three other baby chicks. And there was no way we were leaving without them.

You know those moments when you just say yes without thinking it through? That was this one.

So home we went — not just with four baby chicks, but also with an extra-large chick bucket, cozy hay bedding, a red heat lamp, a water feeder, food, and the start of a whole new journey.

Because it was the dead of winter, Pepper and her tiny flock had to stay inside our mushroom — a special room designed for animal care. They lived there warm and safe for weeks while we slowly integrated them with the rest of our chicken family.

It took time, care, and a few comical hiccups, but today Pepper is thriving. And thanks to her and her sisters, we now enjoy fresh eggs every day — which we feed to our very happy dog pack.

All because of Pepper — one small yes that led to something wonderfully unexpected.
