Salt’s journey began during a quick stop at our local feed store — but as soon as we saw her and her three fuzzy chick friends, our plans changed completely.

It was one of those moments where your heart says yes before your brain has a chance to think it through. So we did what any animal-loving family would do — we brought all four chicks home.

But not just the chicks. We also left the feed store with an extra-large chick bucket, cozy hay bedding, a red heat lamp, a water feeder, food… and a whole new chapter of life at A & K Animal Rescue.

Since it was the middle of winter, Salt and her sisters lived in our specially designed mushroom, a warm indoor room just for animal care. They stayed safe and snug for weeks until the weather warmed up and we could slowly introduce them to the rest of the chicken crew.

Now Salt is fully grown, thriving, and part of the flock that gives us fresh eggs daily — which our dog pack happily devours!

One little “yes” at a feed store turned into so much more… and Salt was at the heart of it.
