Zac—or Zacchaeus, like the Bible character—is the dog that truly put A & K Animal Rescue on the map. Little did we know that the day our mom found him on the road, he would change our rescue forever—his story reaching over 3.3 million people worldwide!

We live out in the middle of nowhere, and one day, our mom was driving home when she spotted what looked like a bag in the road. She swerved to avoid it, but at the very last second, the bag moved.

She slowed down, checked her rearview mirror, and saw a tiny, broken dog struggling to move. Without hesitation, she pulled over and ran to help.

What she found was heartbreaking. Zac was bloody, scared, and severely malnourished. His back leg didn’t work at all, and his body was covered in permanent scars, telling a story of a hard and painful life.

She scooped him up, placed him in the car, and brought him home. For the first time in who knows how long, he had food, water, and safety.

A few days later, we took him to the vet, where they estimated he was only 3-4 years old—even though he looked like he was 10. His rough past had aged him beyond his years.

We posted his story, and the world fell in love with him. 

We named him Zacchaeus because, just like the Bible song says, "He’s a wee little man." But in true Zacchaeus fashion, his story is bigger than we could have ever imagined.

After undergoing reconstructive surgery on his back leg, Zac made a full recovery. Now, he runs freely, eats a little too much, and is happier than ever. But honestly? We don’t care if he’s getting chubby. He deserves all the love and treats in the world.

Zacchaeus is proof that even the most broken can be made whole again. And now, he’s home—forever. ❤️
